My FI experience

The Founder Institute is an incubator program which makes you go through all the steps of building a company in 3 months.  The program is intense and should not be taken lightly.  First I would like to say, I learned in 3 months things that usually takes years to learn.  You are being put in situation faced by entrepreneur from finding a logo to meeting with lawyers to incorporate your business.  All in a very short time period.  Every week there is a new challenge to tackle.

Throughout the course of the program you are being forced to rethink, to challenge your idea.  As a matter of fact the goal is to try to kill it.  Every week people in the program are being picked randomly to be on the hot seat.  Mentors will give you feedback on your idea and areas they believe you should improve.  There is some valuable feedback from these sessions as the mentors give you real life experiences.  What I really liked about the program was meeting all these different entrepreneurs from various fields.   We were all trying to make a difference by solving a simple problem.  I must admit entrepreneurship is not for everyone.  If you are a solo entrepreneur be aware that the course load may sometime be quite overwhelming.  Especially while you are working fulltime.  You will be asked to handle technical aspect of the company such as creating a landing page,  as well as conducting interviews for your project.  All very important topics to be addressed when building a meaningful and enduring company.

I am glad to be among the few survivors,  out of the 400 who applied to join the program.  I am part of the 12 graduates who made it to the end.  And this is only the beginning.

The Founders Institute Demo day got some press in Les Affaires and Techvibes.   More to come!!!

Digital Content is taking over

Yes I said it!  Digital content is taking over!

As a matter of fact Apple started it first!

If you don’t believe me ask yourself when was the last time you actually used a physical CD to listen to music.

Moreover for all Apple fanatics that always get the latest technology hardware!  They all know that CD drives are not sold with the latest Macbook Pro.  Why should they, after all Apple created the AppStore, Itunes!  Why still rely on a CD when Market & Telecom leaders are pushing to have all devices connected.

Lets face it once Apple starts doing something, the rest will follow.

If any of you have purchased anything at the Apple Store recently you must have been asked that question “Would you like me to send your receipt via email ?”

As a matter of fact let me rephrase this:

If any of you have purchased anything from at the Apple store recently.  You have received this “Votre facture de Apple” ( Translation your receipt from Apple).

With the steady growth in Ecommerce, more transactions are being made online.  More of these e-receipts are being generated.

As of today all this new digital content ends up in our email inbox!!!  For a consumer, OK, a receipt is just a receipt.  On the other hand for Businesses a receipt has important financial data.  It should not be treated like the “Hi, What are you up to?” email or the recurrent newsletter.   It should not because it is not the SAME.

An e-receipt has a high value for a business, especially during income tax season.  And we all know how small businesses love accounting!

Granted, businesses don’t want to have to use another email address just to handle all e-receipts.  They want an application that seamlessly does all the work in the backend while they focus on their regular activities.

I think we need to change.  We need to come up with tools which will help us cope with this overloading stream of digital content that ends up in our email Inbox by default.  If I want information about social media, I go on Facebook.  If I need information on a topic I go on wikipedia.  But If I want consolidated information about my receipts, where do I go???
